Karel's Christmas Morning Baked French Toast

With the Christmas holiday only days away, thoughts of children tearing open beautifully wrapped gifts and sharing a warm cup of coffee on Christmas morning with family and friends fill our minds. Why not prepare this wonderfully delicious Christmas morning treat the night before and watch in delight as everyone enjoys this breakfast favorite.
Karel’s Christmas Morning Baked French Toast
   1 loaf French bread (or more if needed to fill pan)
   Butter for pan
   10-12 eggs
   2 cups half and half
   1 cup evaporated milk
   3 tablespoons sugar
   1 tablespoon vanilla
   2 teaspoons cinnamon (or to taste)
   Dash of salt (regular salt not Kosher)
Praline Topping:
   2 sticks of butter, softened
   1 cup dark brown sugar
   1 cup chopped nuts (I use pecans)
   4 tablespoons maple syrup 
   1 teaspoon cinnamon
Slice French bread into 1 inch thick slices. Arrange the slices in a heavily buttered 9 X 13 inch baking dish in two rows (overlapping). Combine eggs, half and half, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt and whisk until blended. Pour over bread, covering bread evenly. (Make sure the liquid mixture goes in between the slices). Cover with foil and refrigerate OVERNIGHT. Preheat oven to 350°. Combine praline topping ingredients together in a bowl and blend together to resemble a crumble topping. Place over top of bread and bake covered with foil for 45 minutes. Remove foil and continue baking until golden.
